Supporter Spotlight

Where would we be without our caring supporters? Government funding doesn’t cover the full costs of our far-reaching programs and services, which meet a profound need, so our supporters are critical to our success. They are generous, creative and enthusiastic. Which is why we love them.

Coloplast A/S

The SCIO Policy Report: A Path to Modernize Public Coverage in Ontario for Intermittent Catheters and Related Supplies, is the output from these broad stakeholder consultations. The report informs and provides expertise to policymakers on the importance of bladder supplies and the consequences when the appropriate supplies are not prescribed or affordable. The report provides a way forward, including nine recommendations.

Coloplast A/S has partnered with SCIO through its visionary Access to Health Care Partnership Program. The program supports the Fair Access to Catheters in Ontario Project, which is working to provide people living with a disability in Ontario access to proper public funding for catheters.

SCIO worked with over 100 people with a spinal cord injury and a group of committed stakeholders to understand current challenges and gather feedback about how the Ontario government could modernize public coverage for intermittent catheters and other related supplies.

SCIO is advocating for these recommendations to be adopted to provide people with what they need – simply and efficiently.

Thank you Coloplast for your support of people with spinal cord injuries through this visionary program.

Southwestern Ontario Professionals’ Executive Committee

SCIO South West Executive Professionals Committee

In January 2020, local leaders joined the new SCIO volunteer Southwestern Ontario Professionals’ Executive Committee. The role of this committee is to foster new relationships within the southwest area of the province that create awareness and new funding opportunities for SCIO.

These enthusiastic and dedicated individuals were instrumental in making the first Virtual Comedy Night a huge success. They have many plans for other events and opportunities that will support our programs and services for people living with spinal cord injury and their families.

“I see this committee achieving milestones that may not have seemed possible at the beginning of the current pandemic we are in. Much like the folks we support at SCIO, the committee is resilient, and we will achieve together, despite overwhelming odds against us.”
– John

“I joined the SCIO Southwestern Ontario Professionals’ Executive Committee because I’ve witnessed the profound impact this organization has had on my clients and within the London community. I look forward to working with this committee to help advance excellence in service, support and advocacy for and with people with spinal cord injury.”
– Jake

DMARehability

DMARehability Rehabilitation staff

DMARehability has been supporting SCIO since 2008 through local events and as one of the charity partners of their Rehabilitation & Life Care Planning Symposium. They have been a key supporter in many ways at the London Roll & Bowl events, as well as our previous Windsor Wheelchair Relay and Curling events. As a sponsor and participant, their teams have won Roll & Bowl Best Team Theme for many years. Their enthusiasm and dedication bring a fun element to all our events.

DMARehability is an industry leader in the provision of rehabilitation and disability management services. Their primary focus is to assist injured individuals, medical and legal communities, insurance companies, government agencies and employers throughout the disability management process. We are proud to count DMARehability as one of our long-time supporters.

“Part of DMARehability’s mission is in giving back to the community that supports them. There are many events that we participate in throughout the year, but the Roll and Bowl event is one that we always get many of our staff to participate in. It is always fun and gives us the opportunity to play for a great cause, while bringing different members of our team together. We see a range of injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, with hundreds of new clients every year. Organizations that are in existence to support our clients hold a special place in our supporting dollars, and SCIO does an excellent job at supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries. We are happy to support this great organization,”

Sifton Family Foundation

Sifton Family Foundation

Doris and Mowbray Sifton founded The Sifton Family Foundation in 1989 to give back to their community. For over thirty years, the foundation has been a vehicle through which the Siftons provide grants in the categories of families, youth and children, seniors and persons with disabilities.

In the past, the Sifton Foundation has supported the London Peer Program. We asked them to support one of our greatest needs right now – the Enhancing Independence Program. Upon reviewing our application, the Board voted to fund the full requested amount, saying they “were shocked at the high cost of equipment and supplies.” We thank them for their support again this year.
